The new Aged Care Quality Standards are now in effect. From 1 July 2019, organisations providing aged care services in Australia will comply with new Aged Care Quality Standards (Quality Standards). This new single set of standards replaced Accreditation Standards, Home Care Standards, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program Quality Framework Standards and Transition Care Standards. The Aged Care Quality Standards focus on quality outcomes for consumers, making it easier for consumers, their families, carers and representatives to understand what to expect from services. There is guidance and resources available for providers to support the Aged Care Quality Standards. The following guidance material can assist aged care services to implement and maintain compliance with the Quality Standards.

According to MyAgedCare, the Aged Care Quality Standards define what good care should include, and make it easier to ensure that people receive good care.
The Aged Care Quality Standards Storyboards (pdf, 12MB) are illustrated scenarios which describe how each of the Standards apply, so that aged care staff can better apply the Quality Standards in their day to day work.
The Charter of Aged Care Rights (the Charter) also commenced from 1 July 2019, providing the same rights to aged care consumers regardless of the type of care they receive.
