Funding

The Australian Government is the major funding of aged care with the funding model for residential aged care called the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC).

Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC)

The Australian Government provides subsidies to approved residential aged care providers through the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) funding model. Funding is based on location, service type and each resident’s care needs. There are 13 AN-ACC classes for permanent residents, including a class for planned admission for palliative care - AN-ACC Class 1. Class 1 is assigned to residents who enter permanent residential aged care to receive planned palliative. The Department of Health and Aged Care provides information on AN-ACC Class 1 including determination for eligibility. AN-ACC will continue from 1 November 2025 to support the 2024 Aged Care Act.
