Voluntary Assisted Dying

VAD is operating in all Australian States and the Australian Capital Territory.

The Northern Territory parliament passed VAD laws on 27 August 2026. VAD will start operating there in early 2028. Until then, VAD is not lawful in the Northern Territory. This Toolkit will be updated in the future to include information about the new laws. In the meantime, visit End of Life Law in Australia for Northern Territory VAD information.

These resources explain Australian VAD laws in the context of aged and home care.
