Self-Care

A career in aged care is a rewarding experience, but can also sometimes be emotional and stressful when providing residents and their families with end-of-life palliative care. Taking care yourself is important for your overall health and well-being and to continue providing quality care.

The ELDAC Self-care Room has comprehensive information and resources for aged care workers to look after themselves while caring for others.

CareSearch

CareSearch offers information on self-care including burnout, contributing factors to burnout, compassion fatigue, and self-care concepts.

PalliAGED

PalliAGED also has a webpage devoted to resources on self-care. These include links to examples of a self-care plan, burnout, caring for oneself, and receiving support from your organisation. palliAGED has downloadable Practice Tips on grief and loss among staff for Nurses (pdf 232kb) and Careworkers dealing with the death of people they have taken care of. (pdf 364kb)
